UCSF Health Floating Holiday – Cesar Chavez Day (March)

UCSF Health departments are open on the Cesar Chavez Day holiday. For Medical Center hospitals and clinics, Personnel Policy for Staff Members (PPSM) and some collective bargaining agreements allocate a floating holiday in lieu of an administrative holiday for Cesar Chavez Day. This floating holiday is made available in HBS for employee use in the month designated by the applicable agreement or policy.

If the employee has not used the previous year's floating holiday by the end of the month before the next floating holiday is scheduled to be made available in HBS, and the employee earns compensatory time, the time is moved to the employee’s compensatory time off bank. It will be paid out annually according to the employee’s collective bargaining agreement or the PPSM. If the employee is FLSA exempt and/or does not earn compensatory time, the floating holiday will be lost if not used.

Employees who do not want to receive a payout should submit a leave request for the floating holiday or compensatory time off (whichever is applicable) and have it approved in HBS prior to the scheduled payout date.

The following chart indicates the month in which the floating holiday is available for use and the date by which the floating holiday must be used:
