Overview

Eligibility, availability, and payout of UCSF Health Floating Holiday for Cesar Chavez Day.

UCSF Health departments are open on the Cesar Chavez Day holiday. For Medical Center hospitals and clinics, Personnel Policy for Staff Members (PPSM) and some collective bargaining agreements allocate a floating holiday in lieu of an administrative holiday for Cesar Chavez Day.

Eligibility

Employees are eligible for a floating holiday if they are a Bargaining Unit Member (or employed as a Non-Represented employee) on the corresponding date:

Availability in HBS

Availability in HBS of the floating holiday for employee use is designated by the applicable agreement or policy:

The Use By Date above indicates the date by which the floating holiday must be used (it is the end of the month before the next year's floating holiday is scheduled to be made available in HBS). If an employee has not used the previous year's floating holiday by the Use By Date, the time will be addressed in HBS as follows: 

If the employee earns compensatory time:

The time will either be paid out or moved to the employee’s compensatory time off bank according to the employee’s collective bargaining agreement or the PPSM. Time moved to an employee's compensatory time off bank will be paid out annually according to the employee’s collective bargaining agreement or the PPSM.

Employees who do not want to receive a payout should submit a leave request for the floating holiday or compensatory time off (whichever is applicable) and have it approved in HBS prior to the scheduled payout date.

If the employee is FLSA exempt and/or does not earn compensatory time:

The floating holiday will be lost if not used.

Employees should submit a leave request for the floating holiday and have it approved in HBS prior to the Use By Date.
