How to Use the Assignment Wizards

Assignment Wizards can help expedite and optimize the process of assigning patients to caregivers. There are two Assignment Wizards:

  • Continuity-of-Care Wizard
  • Optimization Wizard

The Wizards distribute patients among selected caregivers until assigning another patient results in a higher-than-average workload for staff members, based on the unit's policies. Although both Wizards can be run at the same time, it is recommended that you run the Continuity-of-Care Assignment Wizard first. Then review, edit, and save the suggested assignments before running the Optimization Assignment Wizard.

The Continuity-of-Care Wizard identifies and re-assigns previous assignments to the staff members who had those assignments. You can choose how many days prior the Wizard will look for previous assignments, up to 30 days. If more than one nurse was assigned to a patient within the timeframe selected, the Wizard identifies the most recent assignment.

The Optimization Assignment Wizard distributes patients by workload level.
