Post Award Management (PAM) of Sponsored Awards Training

The Post Award Management (PAM) training series is designed as an introduction to post-award processes. There are five separate 90-minute modules in the PAM series; the PAM series is presented twice per year. Continue below for step-by-step instructions on how to register for one or more PAM classes in this curriculum.

Compliance for Sponsored Projects - Provides a thorough understanding of the compliance function as related to sponsored projects and the department's role as well as the role of Contracts & Grants Accounting.

Topics include the importance of compliance, OMB Circular Overview, Cost and Payroll Transfers, Cost Sharing, and Award Verification.

Award Acceptance and Setup for Sponsored Projects - Provides a basic understanding of what goes into creating an award.

Topics include financial system architecture, award setup process, and fund advance requests.

Billing for Sponsored Projects - Provides a basic understanding of the terms and methods of billing for sponsored projects.

Topics include billing terms, conditions, and methods, the billing process, and the roles of the department and administrator in the billing process.

Cash Management and Collections for Sponsored Projects - Provides a basic understanding of the concepts and processes involved in revenue recognition and cash management associated with sponsored projects, and why monitoring revenue recognition and managing cash are integral parts of award management.

Topics include cash and collections key terms, the revenue cycle, accounts receivable, cash management and collections, roles of the department and administrator in the cash management and collections process, and tools to support you in your revenue and cash management role.

Financial Reporting and Award Closeout - Provides a basic understanding of concepts and processes involved in producing financial reports for sponsored projects as well as the 'Who,' 'How' and 'Why' of award closeouts.

Topics include workflow and timing for both reporting and closeouts, system report interpretation, forms and reporting formats, how to handle reporting issues such as indirect cost or carryforwards, award close-out issues like STIP and NCEs, step-by-step award closeout instructions, how to address surplus and deficits, and the roles and responsibilities of the department and administrator in the financial reporting and award closeout processes.

Intended Audiences

This course is:

  • Recommended for an introduction to post-award processes for new employees.
  • A good knowledge refresher for those seeking a basic process review or to learn more about post-award management at UCSF.

Prerequisites

None - Take classes in any order.

How to Register for PAM Classes in the UC Learning Center

  1. Go to the PAM Registration screen(opens in new window) in the UC Learning Center. (MyAccess login required).
  2. Click the Add button next to the PAM class you want to register for . Note, only classes with available offerings will display.

 





 

  1. Click the Add button next to the PAM course date you want to register for . You must perform two clicks for each PAM class - one for adding the class, and one for adding the date/time offering. Your selection is then added to the Registration Summary on the right of the registration screen.
  2. Repeat steps 3-4 for any other PAM class offerings you'd like to register for.




















     
  3. Click Register .


You are now registered for your selected PAM classes and will be emailed confirmations for each class. The confirmations include the Zoom meeting link for your registered sessions.
