Verification of Employment (or Income)

UCSF uses The Work Number to provide employment and income verifications for employees.

The Work Number is a secure, automated service providing employees with the ability to quickly deliver proof of employment or income to authorized verifiers. The Work Number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Use of The Work Number has been identified as a University of California Working Smarter Initiative and is being implemented system-wide with the approval of a number of staff and academic governance committees. The Work Number provides verification services to over 50 million employees and is widely known to mortgage lenders, banks, apartment complexes, and others who may need proof of your employment or income.

Follow the instructions below to direct verifiers to The Work Number to complete verification requests.

While the automated verification service is available 24/7, customer support representatives are available from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time) Monday through Friday.

Current Employees

For Proof of Employment

  1. Direct verifiers to The Work Number:
  2. Provide the verifier with the following information to perform the verification:
    • Your Social Security Number
    • Employer Code: 15975 (Regents of the University of California)

For Income Verifications

To protect confidential income information, you may be required to create a Salary Key (a six-digit number that allows one-time access to salary information) to authorize an income verification.

  1. Create a Salary Key

    • Visit The Work Number website or call 1-800-367-2884

    • Select the "Employee" option and log on using the following information:

      • Employer Code: 15975 (Regents of the University of California)

      • Your Social Security Number

      • Personal PIN (initial PIN is your birthday (MMDDYYYY) – a password change will be required the first time you login)

    • Select the "Create a Salary Key" option and write down the six-digit number

  2. Provide the income verifier with:

    • The one-time Salary Key

    • The Work Number access options for verifiers:

    • Your Social Security Number

    • Employer Code: 15975 (Regents of the University of California)

For a Report of Verification Requests

The Work Number keeps a record of all verifiers that have attempted to access your data or that have received your information. Request an Employment Data Report if you wish to view this information, as well as the employment and income information provided from employers.

Self-Service Verification through the AYSO Website

Employees can also log on to At Your Service Online (AYSO) to print out a self-service employment verification document.


Contact The Work Number

For proof of income or salary, you will need:

  • the Employer Code: 15975 (Regents of the University of California)
  • the employee’s Social Security Number
  • a permissible purpose for accessing the information, as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act
  • consent from the employee to access income their data
  • credentialed access to use The Work Number

The Work Number charges a fee to the verifier for employment verification services.
